b'REGAN BATESGardener I am soon approaching my second year of working at Skibo and every day is different here, with the Scottish climate making sure of that! My tasks range from tending the microgreens that we grow for the kitchen in the spring, planting thousands of bedding plants in the summer, tending to pumpkins in the autumn and prepping the walled garden with a layer of straw and seaweed to enrich the soil for cultivation during the winter. The walled garden is my favourite place on the estate, and it happens to be where the majority of produce is. There is something so wholesome about growing produce from seed and seeing the process all the way through Amy Murrell; Ewen Weatherspoon; Maksym Mykhailiuchenkoto harvesting. Recently I have been entrusted to create the seed sowing schedule for the 2024 season, meaning I have been able to select and order different varieties of fruit, vegetable and flower seeds for the walled garden and glasshouses. I love being part of the planning and planting, especially since the walled garden can be found on Ordnance Survey maps going back to 1874. I enjoy thinking that I am a small part of the walled gardens history.HIDDEN GEMSMeet the people working their magic on the estate to ensure the Skibo experience is truly exceptional each and every timeINTERVIEWS Imogen Almond\x1fINTERVIEWS Imogen Almond'
